Background

Through listening to sector feedback and community engagement, there was an understanding that one of the biggest barriers to transport for Aboriginal communities was information. This was particularly true around NDIS and My Aged Care.

Process

By utilising our organisational expertise in relation to legislative, policy and social change, the NSWATN has delivered an Aboriginal targeted, service-specific pamphlet in the area of NDIS. The NSWATN plans to provide sector and community information brochures on My Aged Care and changes to community transport covering topics such as RouteMatch, Ability Links and Continuity of Service.

Outcome

The CT sector has been extremely welcoming of the NDIS pamphlet as they are exactly what they had been saying was needed. Whilst Aboriginal communities have some basic step-by-step resources (both electronic and hardcopy) that help them to engage in the referral pathways for both NDIS and My Aged Care receiving information from an Aboriginal service has been extremely well received.
